Talk to us about what you want, what you've seen, what you dream of and we'll come back to you with a plan for how we can achieve it.
Our approach to pond construction mimics the world's natural ecosystem, resulting in reduced maintenance requirements, allowing you to enjoy the benefits of your pond without being burdened by time consuming upkeep. When planned for, this can be executed, allowing for less human maintenance and money saved every year. The overarching goal is to have the root systems of plants act as a natural water filter, beneficial bacteria to grow on the rocks and help break down organic matter, and fish that naturally control algae growth. We rely on our expertise combined with nature, avoiding the need for chemicals or other artificial devices.
Have you ever visited a real waterfall? The kind at the end of long hike that pours from tens of feet or maybe even hundreds of feet up in the air? If so, you likely noticed that your body feels the waterfall as soon as you emerge into the clearing, whether you're able to see it or not. The mist is breathable, the sound can drown out all other natural sounds in the area, and the overall feeling is simply visceral. Waterfalls and water features do something amazing to our body and our senses. While we're not going to build a one hundred foot waterfall in your backyard, we do aim to recreate that same feeling so that you can experience it everyday, right outside your door. Whether sitting in a chair or on a bench by yourself or with your family for long periods of time or just for a few moments at the beginning or end of your day, we know you'll love your pond for all of the positive and healthy affects in can contribute to your life.

Our objective is to deliver an impressive high-quality water feature from concept through the final design including all of the landscaped elements. Fish ponds are some of the most sought after ponds home owners are looking for. They can be accompanied by lily pads and flowering aquatic plants but there is something unmatched about the quiet grace of fish moving freely around a pond. We can select your fish, or you can hand pick an assortment from a pet store or local pond supply store. We're happy to provide references. It's helpful to have a rough idea of what kind of fish and how many you might want. These factors can play a part in the suggested depth and pump size for your pond to avoid overcrowding and less than optimal water conditions. You share your vision with us and we'll help craft the details.
This system is a natural and eco-friendly way to enhance water quality in your pond. It replicates a wetland environment using rocks and plants with a wetland filter and pump to naturally process and remove impurities in the water. This method, also known as a bog filter, is particularly effective for ponds with an abundance of fish. It improves water clarity, removes excess nutrients and pollutants, and enhances the overall ecosystem by providing the ideal habitat for aquatic life. Wetland filters require less maintenance than traditional filters. In Tampa, they are a popular choice for pond owners seeking to enjoy the benefits of a cleaner and healthier pond with less required work.
Maintaining a Florida water scape is essential to prevent the water from clouding and the whole pond from deteriorating. Ponds in Tampa are relatively easy to maintain with our lack of a cold winter but some maintenance is necessary to ensure healthy fish, thriving plants, and clear water. You can handle this work yourself with a bit of extra effort, or opt for a maintenance plan handled by our professional team. If you are an ardent yard worker, adding these tasks to your routine is manageable, but you can also rely on experts to handle the upkeep, allowing you to enjoy your water feature stress-free. Whether you prefer a hands-on approach or would rather sit back and relax, we can help you with a solution to keep your aquatic environment looking and functioning at its best.
A pondless waterfall offers the beauty of a natural waterfall without the need for a pond. Water flows over decorative elements, disappears into an underground reservoir, and is recirculated, requiring minimal maintenance. They will attract birds, dragonflies, and frogs to your yard, creating a natural ecosystem. Or consider pondless fountains, which are a space-saving and cost-effective alternative to full waterfall features. They offer self-contained, customizable options with a natural water sound. They can be designed to create the illusion of water disappearing into the ground and can be incorporated into a patio or outdoor space for a unique and impressive addition.
While a backyard oasis can be created by our team with plants, fish, and beautiful water features, we also work on commercial projects.
The visitors and employees that pass through office landscapes benefit greatly from the appeal of moving water and the relaxing atmosphere created by aquatic plants and fish. Resorts, especially in Florida, add a luxurious element when you have a lake filled with large water lilies and live fish which boost the guest experience and create a serene vibe, even if you're within city limits. We can install floating fountains in parks, recreational areas, and even for private clients. This encourages walking paths to be used and adds enjoyment to benches you might place around the pond at your retail center. Babbling waterfalls and large fountains create a peaceful backdrop to offset parking lots or bare land. Another hugely popular venue in Florida to use commercial lakes are golf courses and country clubs. Take your property up a notch and give us a call to see what kind of water features might be best on your land.

As you may have heard from anyone who works in the industry or has their own pond, the limits are only set by what your mind can imagine. If space and budget allow for it, the most expansive and amazing water features can be planned and built by our team for your family or business. Luckily with the Florida weather, we are able to build and install all year round. Depending upon your request, we will need some time to gather an accurate quote based on local suppliers and the requirements of your specific pond. No two are the same, so we do not offer any out-of-the-box pond pricing. Everything we do is made specifically to accommodate each client.
The most expensive part of your pond will almost always be the rocks. This is the case even if you choose to import koi fish directly from Japan! Well...given that the most expensive koi was auctioned off a few years ago for $1.8 million dollars, maybe the rocks won't always be the most expensive element, but in your typical waterscaped backyard, this is the case. We have standing relationships with some fabulous plant suppliers and can often get our items at a discount which helps bring down your overall cost.
Have you ever built a home or renovated your house? The feeling of seeing your finished pond can be as emotional as walking into a new home. Because you're on this page, we'll assume that you feel similar to us and relish all the time you're able to spend in your yard whether that be with your family, pets, or by yourself. Now imagine remodeling your backyard by adding an experiential element that evokes excitement and relaxation anytime you're around it. This is what we do for our clients! Whether you need a pond rehab, you own a commercial space that needs a water feature, or you're curious about the cost of installing a decorative pond in your yard in Plant City or South Tampa, we can do it all. Look around our site to check out all of the specialized aqua features our team can produce or give us a call today to ask any questions.
According to the City of Tampa, if the project falls under 500 sq foot, it usually does not require a permit however there are many other factors to consider when dealing with a pond.
The depth of the pond is a major factor. If you want your koi pond to be deeper than 24" and you live within the City of Tampa Limits, you will be expected to go through the permitting process. If your garden pond is less than 24 inches deep you're probably fine without a permit, but greater than 24 inches and you may start to fall within the category of a pool by Tampa standards.
Another important factor in the process is the excavation. If all of your dirt will be removed from the site that might be beneficial. If the dirt remains, it has to go somewhere and this could mean an elevation change on your property. According to the county, land grading is a big concern in the pond building process so if you will be moving large amounts of dirt around your property, then an elevation survey may be required to make sure that neighbors' properties aren't affected by changes in how water will flow. This survey would be part of the permitting process.
You'll want to check if your address is within city limits or considered part of the county. Not all cities handle things this way, but Hillsborough County has different rules for residents they consider to be part of the county and those who they consider to be within the City of Tampa Limits. If you're not sure, you can check your address in their system here. You'll see a dark red line on the map for the City Limits and you can enter your address in the upper right to see if you are within that line.
In Hillsborough County, a garden pond may be looked at similarly as a pool, so pay close attention to the depth of your new pond and what happens to the dirt that is removed to dig your pond.
Ultimately, the exact plan you have in mind for your pond will determine whether a permit is needed or not. Small koi ponds are allowed without a permit in Hillsborough County and the City of Tampa, but once you surpass 24" deep or start to affect the land too drastically (in regards to water runoff) then pulling a permit may be involved. Because of the city's rules, we really try to address each potential pond on a case by case basis.
Having a fence around your entire yard is rather common these days for privacy, but putting a fence around your pond or building an enclosure for it, probably isn't ideal for most owners trying to install a pond for relaxation.
The best way to avoid the city or county telling you that a fence is required is to keep your pond shallow. 24" is plenty deep for a large amount of fish and plants to enjoy the waterscape while avoiding a dangerous depth for child or animals in the vicinity.
In Florida, pools are required to have a fence of at least 4' in height surrounding them for safety reasons. The motive here is driven by drowning prevention. Not only for permitting, but also for safety, you'll want to keep your pond below the maximum depth in order to make sure it does not fall within the same classification as a pool. Even though your intention may not be to swim in the water, if the pond is too deep it can trigger these extra precautionary steps because the risk falls within the same category as a swimming pool.
All contractors should be concerned with safety, and we are no different. If your pond begins to push the limits of what is allowed, please understand that permitting and thus fencing may be required based on the pond plans in order to protect against any potential accidents.
Yes, Focal Point Ponds can safely deliver and introduce koi fish and other species of fish to your ponds. While we don't raise our own fish, we have connections with local suppliers that allow us to procure different varieties of fish that will grow easily in your Tampa pond or lake.
In addition to koi, we can provide goldfish, carp, bass, catfish, and tilapia. There are many varieties of fish that will do well in a backyard pond, but be careful when mixing sizes. Smaller fish may not survive as easily if you already have some larger fish because the food may be devoured by the larger fish first.
Yes, we are able to install lake fountains throughout the Tampa Bay area. We can analyze your pond or lake and suggest an appropriate sized floating fountain with or without lights. These fountains use an electrical power source that runs along the bottom of your pond to your power source on the shore to keep the presentation as tidy as possible.
We have a dedicated page to floating fountains here.
We offer no commitment estimates, so what are you waiting for?
